Previously, the Sony Xperia 1 VI was believed to be launching on 17 May, owing to the event schedule being posted on the company’s Japanese site with the aforementioned date. At the time, nothing else indicated that the launch will be streamed online as the company did for previous entries. This has changed over the weekend, as there is now an online stream for the launch scheduled for 15 May, at 3PM.
In addition to the launch itself, a teaser for the periscope camera of the Sony Xperia 1 VI has also been posted on the official Xperia YouTube channel. Said video shows a focal length range of between 85mm and 138mm, though there are claims online that the full range extends all the way up to 170mm, giving the equivalent to a 7x optical zoom. This is part of a previous specs leak for the phone which also claims that the other two rear cameras consist of a 16mm wide-angle lens and a 24mm – 48mm 2x optical zoom lens.
On that note, some of the alleged specs of the Sony Xperia 1 VI that have previously made their way online are more believable than others. Among the former include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 as its chipset, as well as the 5,000mAh rating of the battery. As for the latter, there’s the claim that the phone is dropping its signature 21:9 aspect ratio for a more conventional 19.5:9.
As for whether these claims end up ultimately bring accurate, we won’t have that long a wait to find out. It’s also probably worth mentioning that since the periscope teaser, another teaser of the Sony Xperia 1 VI’s screen has been posted on said official YouTube channel. Chances are there will be one more coming the day before the launch itself.
