Since a parts dealer leaked the existence of the Sonos Ace recently, more reports on the upcoming wireless headphones from the audio brand have surfaced. Befitting the usual size of price tags the brand often attaches to its products, the wireless headphones will come pretty chock of features to justify it.
The Verge reports that the company intends to market the Sonos Ace as competitors to other high-end headphones like the Sony WH-1000XM5 and Apple AirPods Max, among others. That unfortunately doesn’t narrow down what sort of asking price the Sonos Ace will eventually have, considering the price difference between the other two examples isn’t exactly a narrow one.
That being the case, some of the features you can expect from the upcoming wireless headphones include lossless audio over Bluetooth, but it’s unclear via which codec will this be achieved. Spatial audio is almost a given these days for headphones of this price range, but as an added bonus it will also be getting dynamic head tracking to go with it.
Another feature that’s a given these days is on-ear detection for automatic pausing of playback, but of course whether the implementation on the Sonos Ace is good is a different story. There’s also the claim that the ear cushions are magnetically detachable, which can go either way. On one hand, this makes them more easily replaceable, but on the other, said replacements will likely be pricier. One can still argue that the pros outweighs the cons, regardless of if the ear pads are wrapped using fabric or faux leather.
Closing out the list of the supposed specs of the Sonos Ace is that it will have a battery life of about 30 hours. There’s also the question of if it works well with the well-oiled integration that the brand has for just about all of its other products which, while valid, seems an outlier of a concern for headphones to have.
At any rate, the report reiterates the prior claim of a June announcement window. So it won’t be too long a wait until these are confirmed or denied.
