It’s been a long time coming, but Google has finally included Maybank support for Google Wallet. With this, users can now sync the bank’s Mastercard and Visa cards to the digital payment feature and conduct transactions wirelessly with them through compatible NFC terminals.
To add your card, first open the Google Wallet app on your Android smartphone, tap “Add a card”, and select “Payment Card”. From there, tap the “+” button, enter your card details, verify your details through MAE or by calling the bank’s hotline, and then set the Maybank Card as the default option for Google Pay.
Alternatively, you can also add your card to Google Wallet directly through the MAE mobile app. To do this, launch the application and tap “View All Accounts. From here, select your existing card(s) from the “Cards” tab, tap on “Add to Google Play”, follow the on-screen instructions, and then authorise the process via Secure2u.
Keep in mind that you can only sync your card to only one device, and it has to be the one which you’ve installed the MAE app on. Similarly, you can’t use the same card on two platforms (ie: Google Wallet and Apple Pay) simultaneously.
Meanwhile, to celebrate the addition of its card to Google’s payment system, Maybank has announced a 100% Cashback promotion, allowing users to enjoy rebates of up to RM10 for your first transaction via Google Wallet. However, the bank notes that this is limited to the first 1,000 users from now until 8 July 2024 on a first-come-first-served basis.
On a related note, Google had also included support for Bank Muamalat cards late last month. With this and Maybank’s, the total number of supported local banks on Google Wallet now totals up to eight. For your reference, others that have been added prior to this include CIMB, AmBank, Hong Leong Bank, HSBC Bank, Public Bank, and Standard Chartered. It’s also worth mentioning that the platform also supports Wise debit cards.
