There have been plenty of leaks surrounding the Ninendo Switch 2, or whatever the successor to the current handheld console hybrid is called. Of course, with no official confirmation, nothing is yet set in stone. But with a recent announcement via the company’s official account on X, formerly Twitter, it looks like confirmation is still a long way away.
The post in question claims to convey the message of company president Shuntaro Furukawa, who says that “an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch” will be made “within this fiscal year”. This means that the veil will be lifted sometime between now and 31 March of 2025, which lines up with previous reports claiming that Nintendo Switch 2 reveal got pushed back to early next year.
This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct…

As the post itself notes, the current-generation Nintendo gaming hardware was first announced back in March 2015. If the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement is early, “it will have been over nine years since” the current-gen device was announced. Or a full decade if the announcement just barely meets the deadline the company has set for itself.
With that being said, the company also announced in the post that it there will be another Nintendo Direct in June for “the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024. Naturally, the company says that it will not be mentioning the Nintendo Switch 2 during that presentation.
