The Johor state government has announced a new initiative called “Maju Johor Premium Wi-Fi”, which will see the state setting up free public hotspots around the state. It will involve a total of 63 hotspots across 23 locations and it will kick off this July.
Some of the locations to receive the hotspots include Johor Sultan Ibrahim Islamic University College and the Johor Education Foundation College, which will receive several lines with a minimum speed of 1Gbps for each line. Additionally, four government hospitals will be part of “Maju Johor Premium Wi-Fi”, namely Sultanah Aminah Hospital and Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Bahru, Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital in Batu Pahat, and Enche’ Besar Hajjah Kalsom Hospital in Kluang.
Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin also said that the state will install the hotspots at the registration counter and waiting room of the Johor Bahru Land Office, the Kulai District Land Office, the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building, and the Larkin Bus Terminal.
Moreover, a total of 25 hotspots across 13 People’s Housing Projects (PPR) in the state will be involved in the initiative, with a speed of 2Gbps per hotspot. Overall, the state government has allocated over RM1.9 million for this project.
