Apple’s WWDC event, currently scheduled to start on 10 June, is said to be shining the spotlight on the company’s AI efforts for consumers. This will inevitably show up as part of the bitten fruit brand’s software offerings, which are, iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15. According to a recent report, the first parts specifically to be getting the AI treatment are Siri, Safari and Spotlight Search.
AppleInsider cites sources that claim that the first two in the list will be getting AI-powered text summarisation. Naturally the feature on Safari will be summarising web pages, while Siri can do so for text conversations instead. These features will be based on Apple’s Ajax LLM which, based on prior reports, is based on Google’s JAX framework.
As is common with Apple, the fruit brand will have most of its AI features being processed on-device, with said devices reportedly getting new hardware to reflect this. Though some “more sophisticated” AI-related features will ultimately still require Ajax to rely on cloud-based processing.
When it does so, the report notes that users will be provided privacy warnings. The same applies when Ajax pulls something from Safari or Messages, though it is also noted that there will be some degree of integration, allowing it to also access the Calendar and Contacts apps.
Of course, whether or not these claims are accurate will be confirmed next month when WWDC rolls around. Before that, word is that Apple will also be laying out its AI plans during the launch of the iPad Air and iPad Pro range refresh, which are currently rumoured to be the first devices armed with the company’s M4 chips.
