The Sony Xperia 1 VI has a physical launch event currently scheduled for 17 May in Japan. It has been subject to a fair number of leaks before, but it’s consistency among them hasn’t really been convincing, as far as accuracy is concerned. More recently, another batch of leaks is claiming to have more details on the upcoming flagship device’s cameras, battery and chipset.
These details come courtesy of MSPoweruser. That being said, let’s get the least surprising detail out of the way first, which is the processor most likely being a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Then there’s the battery which is a pretty common 5,000mAh rating. The Sony Xperia 1 VI also supports wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, though the exact charging rates are not mentioned.
Beyond these come the nitty-gritty details of the Sony Xperia 1 VI. Starting with the rear camera combo, this is noted to consist of a 16mm wide angle lens, with a 24mm lens with 2x optical zoom switching it to 48mm, and a 7x telephoto zoom 85-170mm lens. On the software side of things, the report claims that it is finally squeezing all of its camera related apps into one, so no more dealing with Photography Pro, Videography Pro and Cinema Pro separately.
Also being corroborated in this report is a prior claim that the screen on the Sony Xperia 1 VI will be ditching its near-iconic 21:9 aspect ratio for a 19.5:9 one. It will also support variable refresh rates (VRR) between 1Hz and 120Hz, as well as a 240Hz touch sampling rate. There are also more gaming-focused features like adjustable white balance and an FPS optimiser.
The Sony Xperia 1 VI will reportedly be available in two colour options, one being the classic black slate and the other being dubbed “platinum silver”. Whether or not any of these are accurate, the company will be either confirming them or debunking them in two weeks’ time.
