The Infinix GT 20 Pro saw its launch today, confirming its asking price of RM1,299. But the company passed us the phone a little earlier prior to the launch to get a quick first impression of the device. So here are some quick thoughts about the phone.
Just as when the supposed design sketch of the phone first made its way onto the internet, it’s easy to mistake the Infinix GT 20 Pro for its predecessor. But upon closer inspection, there are a few key differences between the two, at least on the outside, and price notwithstanding.
To start, the Infinix GT 20 Pro has lost some of its transparency. Or more specifically, most of the details on the back now look look like they are on the back plate, rather than beneath it. Granted, there are still parts that look layered, but it’s overall a cleaner and less gaudy look to it. Incidentally, it also feels less hollow compared to the predecessor.
That being the case, the end result is still a pretty aggressive gamer aesthetic to it. For what it’s worth, the parts that you’d think would light up actually do now, in what is called the Mecha Loop LED lighting.
In hand, there is some heft with the Infinix GT 20 Pro, at least more so than you’d generally expect from a phone within this price range. This may have something to do with the 5,000mAh battery found within. Either way, it gives a pretty solid feel to the phone, which can help it from slipping from your grip, as the sides and back are pretty smooth and slippery.
On that note, the edges on the front is smoother than the back, so depending the way you hold the phone you may experience some discomfort, especially if you rub your fingers strongly off the rear edges.
It’s mostly the same with the now two-tiered elevation of the camera island at the back, with the first elevation having a slight brushed metal texture to it. For both, while you wouldn’t notice them for the most part, the edges are sharp enough to cause discomfort if you hold the Infinix GT 20 Pro the wrong way, especially if there’s some aggressive hand movement in the heat of the moment.
The user experience with the Infinix GT 20 Pro is pretty good. Swiping between home pages and scrolling through websites and social media is pretty smooth, what with the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chipset running within. Of course, the 144Hz of the 6.78-inch AMOLED Full HD+ screen also helps.
The phone also has stereo speakers, being top- and bottom firing. In a sense, this is better than the asymmetrical setup that makes one of them front-firing and not the other, so even if the two speakers are not exactly aligned, they still sound more balanced. This is especially when held horizontally, even if one speaker doesn’t fire directly into your palm. Top end volume is pretty high too, but as you’d expect there’s mild distortion as the very top end.
We didn’t quite get the chance to give its imaging capabilities a try, unfortunately. But for what it’s worth, it has a 108MP main + 2MP depth sensor + 2MP macro combo doing the job at the back.
To reiterate, the Infinix GT 20 Pro is available starting today for RM1,299. It is available in three colours, which are Mecha Blue, Mecha Orange and Mecha Silver, the last one being what you’ve seen in this article.
