Meta has announced a couple of new features to WhatsApp groups and Communities that make it easier to organise get-togethers. The app now allows users to set up events such as parties, meetings, hangouts, and more in groups, similar to online invitation services.
According to the company, any user can create an event and members of the group will be able to RSVP in order to properly get a headcount. Events will be pinned in the group’s information page and those who have responded as going will receive an automatic reminder when it is getting close.
The events feature will be coming to groups belonging to a Community first, but it will eventually be rolling out to all WhatsApp groups in the coming months. Additionally, the platform is releasing the ability for users to reply to announcements by admins in groups.
It says that replies to admin announcements will be grouped together and minimised so that it is not cluttered and you can see the context. Moreover, notifications for announcement replies will be muted. In related news, the app also recently added the ability for users to sort messages by categories and search messages by date for better organisation.
