The Apple Vision Pro is a pricey mixed-reality headset that’s currently only available in the US, even if there are signs of it entering other markets. But before the thing has a chance to do so, it looks like the bitten fruit company has b begun slowing down production for the headset, according to an analyst’s claim.
In a Medium post, Ming-Chi Kuo says that the brand has cut shipments of the Apple Vision Pro from between 700,000 and 800,000 units to between 400,000 and 450,000 units instead. The claim is that the headset has “fallen sharply beyond expectations” while it is a US-exclusive, leading to less optimistic view of demand when it goes outside its home market.
As a result of this, the company is reviewing its plans for headsets in the near future. Previously, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has claimed that there would be a more affordable version of the Apple Vision Pro headset coming at the end of 2025, even if it won’t actually be all that affordable. Now, Kuo says that plan may get scrapped in response to the lower-than expected demand of the current model.
All things considered though, this is not exactly a surprise. As much as the Apple Vision Pro is meant to wow consumers with the tech that it offers, it’s difficult to see its asking price as doing anything but the opposite. Even among those that could afford it, not everyone is holding on to the mixed-reality headset.
