Microsoft has already launched its Surface devices for businesses, which run Intel processors. The consumer variants running Qualcomm Snapdragon X elite chips are currently expected to be unveiled before Build 2024. But it looks like there is another chip variant for the line, in the form of the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Pro.
Windows Latest reports that the chip was spotted in the Geekbench database, running on a device codenamed OEMMN OEMMN. The report notes that this is the codename for the Microsoft Surface Pro 10, with the listing also indicating that the device has 16GB of RAM.
While the listing doesn’t detail much of what the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus is all about, it does note that it comes with 10 cores where the X Elite has 12. The report does note that the Plus model does come integrated with the Snapdragon X65 model, while the X Elite has an external one instead.
This may indicates the possibility of the Microsoft Surface 10 Pro getting a mid-range and high-end differentiation, with the processor being the key difference. At the same time, the report notes that it’s possible that the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus is reserved for the Microsoft Surface 10 Pro, while the X Elite chip goes exclusively to the Surface Laptop 6 instead.
Of course, it remains to be seen if there will be such a clear distinction between devices and processors. Microsoft is currently scheduled to unveil these new Surface devices on 20 May, which will probably be when we get any sort of confirmation on such reports. Though it’s unclear for now if the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus will get its own separate unveiling by its maker.
