After over a month of its discovery in SIRIM’s database, realme has finally confirmed the local launch date for the fifth member of its realme 12 smartphone line-up. The device, known as the realme 12x 5G, is the entry-level variant and is touted by the company to be “the most affordable” 5G smartphone yet.
To recap its launch in China from late March, it was revealed that the phone sports a 6.67-inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 625 nits. Additionally, it is equipped with an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance, as well as a screen that can be used while wet.
On the inside, the realme 12x 5G packs a 5G-enabled MediaTek Dimensity 6100 Plus chipset, along with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. Powering it is a 5,000mAh battery with 15W charging speed via USB-C.
For imaging, featured on the back of the phone is a dual camera setup consisting of a 50MP primary and a 2MP depth sensor. In front, housed within the punch-hole cutout on its display is an 8MP selfie camera.
Local pricing for the realme 12x is still unconfirmed, but it is speculated that it might fall under the sub-RM1k range. For reference, the phone launched in China at a starting price of CNY1,399 (~RM917), but whether it will actually live up to the brand’s claim as the most affordable 5G smartphone in Malaysia remains to be seen.
