Earlier, we saw reports of Meta AI being rolled out to WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, but only in India and parts of Africa. Which was a bummer for those outside the aforementioned regions and want to give the generative AI tech a try. It looks like the company is making it more widely available outside of the aforementioned apps, though availability still looks to be very limited.
There is now a dedicated Meta AI website, and it works a lot like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Where it is available, it can be used for free if all you want from it is generated text. If you saw the news about ChatGPT no longer needing an account to work, albeit with more limited functionality, this will be familiar.
For generating images via this Meta AI website, TechRadar reports that you’ll have to sign into your Facebook account. These will understandably be watermarked, and you can also get it to animate some of these images, though it’s unclear to what extent.
White it all sounds very good, it’s still not very widely available. The Verge reports that as of now, Meta AI is only available in the US, and is being rolled out to Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. More countries are to be added to the list, but it’s unclear when that will happen, and if Malaysia will be among them.
