Back in 2015, Razer announced the Firefly mouse mat, which brings the brand’s Chroma RGB lighting to an odd gaming peripheral choice. In recent times, the mousepad series has gotten a V2, which looks to be more of the same. But more than that is the Razer Firefly V2 Pro, which gives the whole mat the RGB treatment.
The Razer Firefly V2 Pro has 15 “individually customisable lighting zones”, so there is some limit to what you can do with your mousepad rainbow lightshow. These lights come from an LED strip attached to the top of the hard mat, which has a frosted surface to amplify the glow. While the brand claims that this won’t interfere with the optical sensors on mice, the actual material is not mentioned. It wouldn’t be surprising if it was glass, since there’s already a precedent for it.
Naturally, power has to be drawn from somewhere to power the RGB lighting, and the Razer Firefly V2 Pro does this via a USB-C cable. To make up for the fact that a mouse mat is taking up a port, it comes with its own USB-A port for you to plug a peripheral in. Fittingly, the company mentions specifically the dongle for one of its wireless mice.
On one hand, the Razer Firefly V2 Pro is claimed to be the world’s first LED backlit gaming mouse mat, which is fair. But on the other, there’s probably not much competition in that regard. If it tickles your fancy though, it can be yours for RM499 which, incidentally, is the same price as the Atlas glass mat.
