Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg has announced a long-awaited new feature for WhatsApp, which is Chat Filters. The new tool will help users keep their messages organised and help them find specific messages even faster, with messages being divided into three categories.
The messaging app now filters messages under three tabs, which is All, Unread, and Groups. Of course, for those who are in a lot of groups, the latter will be the most useful in keeping things organised. Moreover, the group filter will also show subgroups of Communities.
According to WhatsApp’s FAQ, the selected filter will remain applied until you switch to a new filter or until you exit and re-open the app. While you can’t manually recategorise messages, you can however add messages to the unread tab by marking individual messages as unread. The feature was seen being tested by the company back in 2022, but unfortunately, the official release seems to lack filters for contacts and non-contacts.
The company says that Chat Filters has started rolling out to users and will gradually be available to everyone in the coming weeks. Other chat organisation tools that have recently been implemented by the app include searching messages by date and pinning up to three chats.
