Samsung Malaysia today has announced a repricing for its Galaxy Tab A9 tablet, which is set to retail for only RM699 starting tomorrow on 16 April 2024. This arrives as part of the brand’s Gempak Raya Campaign, which also saw price revisions for select Galaxy Tab S9 models last week.
Originally launched locally in October 2023, Samsung introduced Galaxy Tab A9 series in two variants: a vanilla version, and a larger Plus model. That being said, the newly announced repricing only applies to the former which initially launched at RM899, therefore saving customers RM200 once the new price applies. The latter, however, still starts at RM1,069 for the Wi-Fi only configuration, and RM1,649 for the Wi-Fi + cellular option.
Since it has been a while, here’s a recap for the vanilla model’s specifications. First off, the Galaxy Tab A9 sports an 8.7-inch LCD display, along with a refresh rate of 60Hz and a resolution of 1340×800 pixels. Also onboard are Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, an 8MP primary camera, and a 2MP front-facing camera.
Under its hood is a MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, while powering it is a 5,100mAh battery with 15W fast charging support via USB-C. Other features include Android 13 via Samsung’s One UI 5.1, microSD support up to 1TB, as well as Wi-Fi 5, LTE and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.
As mentioned earlier, the new RM699 pricing for the vanilla Galaxy Tab A9 will only apply starting tomorrow, available via Samsung’s official web store and authorised resellers nationwide. The tablet is offered in three colour options: Graphite, Silver, and Navy.
It’s also worth mentioning that another variant of the device, known as the Galaxy Tab A9 Kids Edition, was launched in Malaysia earlier this month. While it does feature similar specifications to the vanilla model, this particular version exclusively comes with parental controls, a curated app store, and some kid-friendly accessories. However, it is somewhat pricier at RM799, which makes the repriced Galaxy Tab A9 seem like a better alternative.
