DJI officially unveiled the Avata 2 last week, and has recently confirmed its pricing and availability for the local market. According to the brand, the new FPV drone is equipped with several upgrades in terms of imaging, features and battery life, and is also marketed to both experienced drone users as well as newcomers.
As mentioned in our earlier report, the DJI Avata 2 features a narrower profile than its predecessor, but retains the protected quad-propeller design and single-axis camera placement. In terms of imaging, it now features a 12MP 1/1.3-inch CMOS “Super-wide-angle” camera, which is touted to offer better dynamic range that can handle low light more effectively. Additionally, the drone offers a 155-degree field-of-view, as well as record 4K 60fps in HDR and supports 10-big D-Log M Colour mode.
The Avata 2 comes with a new Easy Acro mode which enables it to perform acrobatic flips and rolls, as well as 180-degree drift maneuvers with a simple push of the button. Apart from that, it now features backward visual positioning sensors in addition to the downward sensors for improved safety. There’s also an Automatic Return to Home (RTH) feature, and an all-new Turtle Mode which allows the drone to flip itself up if it lands upside-down.
Other upgrades include a longer video transmission distance of 13km and a higher max transmission rate of 60Mbps, whereas transmission latency is now 24ms instead of 30ms. Meanwhile, its internal storage is increased from 20GB to 46GB, and there’s even microSD card support if you wish to expand it further. Furthermore, DJI has included support for faster wireless data transfer support over WiFi, while the new WiFi Live Feed Sharing feature enables the live in-flight feed to be shared between goggles and a smartphone seamlessly.
Battery-wise, the drone offers an increased flight time of 23 minutes via a single charge, which is an improvement over its predecessor’s 18-minute usage time. It also supports PD fast charging, which DJI says is capable of topping up the Avata 2’s battery from 0% to 100% in just 45 minutes.
The new Avata 2 is now available for purchase in Malaysia with a starting price of RM1,999 for the drone only, though currently DJI is only offering it as part of two Fly More Combos via its official online stores on Lazada and Shopee. On that note, the first Fly More Combo which comes with one additional battery will cost you RM3,999, while the second option which comes with three additional batteries is priced at RM4,619. The former comes with the drone itself, the DJI Goggles 3, DJI RC Motion 3, two pairs of propellers, a gimbal protector and extra tools, whereas the latter adds a two-way charging hub and a sling bag.
