OPPO has announced the rollout date for its AI Eraser tool, as promised when it revealed the feature back in February. This comes shortly after OnePlus, its sister company, also announced AI Eraser for some of its flagship and mid-range devices, but OPPO seems to have a more limited release with its tool.
The AI Eraser feature will be coming exclusively to the Reno11 series starting from 10 April 2024 via an OTA update. Judging from the promo pictures, the generative AI tool will also be available to the lower-end Reno11 F. The company has not revealed whether or not it has plans to roll out the tool to its other phones in the near future.
Similar to the Photo Assist feature in Samsung’s Galaxy AI, AI Eraser enables users to open up the gallery and remove unwanted objects from photos. The generative AI will fill in the blanks by using context so that the manipulated parts blend in with the photo. Just like with OnePlus, OPPO has not clarified whether the editing is done on-device or it requires an internet connection.
Some of OnePlus’ China-exclusive AI features such as article and call summary tools are expected to be released globally later this year. Given that these are powered by OPPO’s AndesGPT generative AI model, it would not be much of a surprise if OPPO also rolled out these features in the near future.
