Nothing previously teased the launch of a new audio product with its bizarre teaser involving a frog, before setting the date at 18 April. Now, the company has revealed ahead of time what exactly it is announcing – the Nothing Ear and the Nothing Ear (a).
While the main product has been known colloquially as the Ear (3) since the first teaser, the brand announcing that it is dropping numbers from its naming strategy. The company says this is “to center the focus around the product”, though it’s not an unfamiliar one, if Apple’s product range minus the iPhone is any indication.
We started Nothing with audio in 2021 and since our very first product, we’ve relentlessly refined our design and engineering with every new addition to our audio product suite.

Of course, the other thing to address is the Ear (a). If the company’s latest phone is any indication, this will probably be a budget variant of the flagship product. That being said, it’s unclear for now if this also makes it the successor to the (Stick), and inheriting the design differences. These questions are scheduled to be answered in 10 days’ time, so it’s not too long a wait to find out.
On a related note, it’s unclear if the strategy to drop numbers from its products will also apply to the brand’s phones. Though it will probably not stop consumers from still tagging numbers to the end of the products’ names to make identification easier.
