The upcoming batch if iPad Air and Pro has seen their debut getting delayed multiple times now. Previously expected between late March and April, Their unveiling have since been pushed back to May. Now, there is now an exact date, and it’s pretty early into the month of May at that.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg now cites sources that say the exact date for the unveiling of the new iPad models is 6 May. On that point, retail stores are reportedly preparing to receive new product marketing materials later that week.
Gurman also reiterates in his Power-On newsletter that the delay to the new date from the initial March window is due to the “complex new iPad screens”. For context, the Air line is introducing for the first time a larger 12.9-inch variant, while the Pro models are getting alternative variants sporting OLED screens. While not mentioned in the report, it’s likely that the latter were the ones contributing to most of the challenges.
Additionally, Apple is also working on new models of the base iPad, as well as a new mini model. Though on this front, the former will simply be a “cost-reduced version” of the 10th generation device released back in 2022. As for the latter, the only upgrade it will be getting is its processor. Either way, both won’t be happening until the end of the year “at the earliest”, and with the current delays, it’s probably safer to expect them to actually appear next year.
