The Pro variants of the iPhone 15 have gotten titanium frames as one way to distinguish them from the base variants. It looks like the iPhone 16 Pro models will be getting a similar treatment, according to a rumour posted on the Naver blog,
According to the claim, the titanium frame on the iPhone 16 Pro will be more polished than the brushed finish on the iPhone 15 Pro. This allegedly leads to a more glossy appearance, making it look similar to polished stainless steel, which was used in the iPhone models older than last year. Using titanium as the material would also make them more resistant to scratches.
Using titanium as a material for a phone’s frame conveys other benefits which would also apply to the iPhone 16 Pro. In addition to being tougher, it’s also a lighter material, while also being better at heat dissipation. But of course, it’s not without its drawbacks. Being tougher means that, should the device suffer a bump or drop, more of the force is transferred through the frame, which may mean more damage suffered by the glass front and back.
Of course, the claim that Apple is giving the iPhone 16 Pro a titanium frame still a rumour, even if the current generation phone is a strong enough precedent. The usual pinch of salt applies until its unveiling later in the year, or at least until more substantiated claims from more reliable sources show up.
