Recent word from the mill of the console gaming world is hinting at Sony implementing a new “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label for games that are able to meet or have been optimised to run at 4K60fps, as well as support its upcoming PlayStation Spectral Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technology.
The news comes by way of Insider Gaming (IG), who initially published an article about the leak. Just so we’re clear, the label is internally being called “Trinity Enhanced” and not PS5 Pro Enhanced, technically. But, as IG points out, we’re sticking to the latter because it helps with the SEO.
Getting back on point, the PS5 Pro Enhanced label that Sony is proposing would be slapped on to game titles that are able to take advantage of three criteria with the yet unreleased console: upscaling the game resolution up to 4K via PSSR, maintaining a constant 60 fps, ad the ability to add or increase the intensity of ray-tracing effects.
Now, this is us stating the obvious but it is unlikely that all future titles will be PS5 Pro Enhanced ready, meaning that it wouldn’t be able to deliver 4K60fps. Take the upcoming GTA 6, for example. The game’s not yet out but suffice it to say, questions will arise about the PS5 Pro’s prowess in running the game with all the stops removed.
Earlier rumours have suggested that the PS5 Pro will be based on a new Viola APU, featuring the same number of Zen2 cores as the non-Pro, but will be sporting a more powerful RDNA3-based GPU with 60 Compute Units. It will also still have the same 16GB of GDDR6 memory but will be running at a higher frequency of 18Gbps.
