Those travelling back to their hometowns by land for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration will be able to enjoy toll-free access next week, starting from 12:01 am on 8 April until 11:59pm on 9 April. As recently announced by the public works ministry (KKR), the waiver applies to all toll plazas in Peninsular Malaysia, except for the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and the Tanjung Kupang toll plazas which connect to Singapore.
Much like previously during Christmas and Chinese New Year celebrations, toll-free access is only for Class 1 vehicles, which covers all private passenger vehicles except for taxis. KKR revealed that the current initiative is estimated to have a financial implication of RM37.6 million.

The ministry also announced that the Malaysian Highway Authority and concessionaires will activate Smart Lanes at 18 locations along the PLUS highway in order to reduce congestion. It added that three additional locations have been included this time around, compared to just 15 during the Chinese New Year toll-free initiative last February.
Additionally, road users are encouraged to plan their travels, and utilise the travel time advisories (TTAs) issued by highway concessionaires. It is also advisable to have sufficient Touch ‘n Go (TnG) and eWallet credit balance before commencing their journeys back to their hometowns for the upcoming celebration.
Besides that, KKR is recommending to constantly check the traffic status for all highways via LLM’s official social media channels. They can also contact the authority’s Traffic Management Centre at 1-800-88-7752 to get the latest information on traffic conditions or help.
