The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) intends to set up a new department to focus on the increasingly complex challenges of digital crime and technology. This was revealed by inspector-general of police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain earlier at the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL).
PDRM today is celebrating its 217th Police Day, with an event held at the aforementioned location. Also present is prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, home minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, deputy home minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, and chief secretary Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.
Razarudin is hoping that the government would consider the request so that PDRM can provide the best service to the community and country. He explained that digital technology has revolutionised the world and the landscape of daily life, and even contributed to a variety of new criminal trends. Amongst which, he added, includes the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
“The duties and responsibilities of PDRM in the context of crime are now increasingly challenging and complex,” the IGP said. “For that, in an effort to strengthen the service delivery system, PDRM needs to prepare the department with assets and equipment in line with the advancement of modern policing technology.”
