Sonos is reportedly gearing up to launch the 2nd generation of its Roam portable speaker. The original Roam first launched back in 2021 and is technically the brand’s second attempt at making a quasi-cylindrical form factor, while packing as much of a punch as it possibly can in said form factor.
There isn’t a whole lot of information but word on the wire suggests that the Roam 2 may simply be an updated version of the original Roam, with improved Bluetooth and W-Fi connectivity. Further, Sonos could also fit it with its new touch-based control, just as it did with the Era 100 and Era 300 speakers.
In our review of the original Roam, we found the portable speaker packing some really powerful sound but felt short-changed with only Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, and mediocre battery life. To be fair, Sonos this release and update for the latter issue, allowing it to reach its promised 10-hour battery life in full.
As to when we can expect the Roam 2, June is seemingly the month in which Sonos wants to reveal its product to the world. Interestingly, another and separate rumours says that that is when the brand also wishes to make its first ever pair of headphones available. Initial reports said that it had planned on announcing it next month, but now it seems that we may be able to expect a double launch in the middle of the year.
