Disney+ Hotstar is set to update its subscription plans in Malaysia next month, specifically from 24 April 2024 onwards. According to a recent post on its website’s helpdesk page, the service will discontinue its single RM54.90 three-month plan and replace it with five new options, offering either Basic or Premium subscriptions to customers.
What sets Basic and Premium apart are the number of concurrent streaming and maximum device logins per account, as well as maximum video quality. For the former, there’s the new monthly subscription that’s going for RM24.90 per month, followed by the annual plan for RM214.90 per year. The latter, on the other hand, offers three different options to customers: monthly at RM39.90/month, quarterly at RM79.90 per three months, and annually at RM289/year.
Existing users will immediately notice that the upcoming change will also see a significant hike in pricing for Disney+ Hotstar in Malaysia. This is made obvious from the service’s quarterly subscription that’s now offered as a Premium option at RM79.90, a RM25 jump over the existing RM54.90 plan. Another comparison is the RM24.90/month Basic plan, which is RM6.60 more if you divide the current three-month plan into single months.
In the same helpdesk page, Disney+ Hotstar explains that the updated prices are for new subscriptions as of 24 April 2024, whereby those signing up for a subscription prior to this will only see a price change in their billing period on or after the given date. However, it also noted that customers could still be affected by the price increase even though their billing cycle ends before the period. Such instances would happen if the service is unable to process payments before 24 April 2024 and the payment succeeds on or after the date.
Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia has yet to clarify whether the new price structure would also affect customers who signed up through Astro and Unifi TV. Currently, the former is offering the service as part of its Ultra and Ulti box packages starting from RM94.99/month, while the latter offers it as part of its Ultimate Max, Ultimate Plus, Ultimate, Movies and Kids Pack from RM16/month. It is very likely that both Astro and Unifi will announce any potential changes separately at a later date.
