Epic Games Store (EGS) announced that it is heading both to Android and iOS later this year. The digital distribution platform and owner of the Unreal Engine made the announcement with a post on via its official account on X, formerly Twitter.
In its post, Epic says that the Games Store on Android will have the “Same fair terms, available to all developers, on a true multi-platform store, with amazing games for everyone.” By the first part, it explains that the company will offer the same revenue split on Android, as it does on PC.

As a quick primer, Epic allows developers that build games using its Unreal Engine, which is currently in its 5th iteration, to keep 88% of the revenue that is generated by its game, taking only a 12% cut from the profits. By comparison, Google’s cut from game developers can go as high as 30%, although the search engine says that it only takes a 15% cut on the first US$1 million (~RM4.74 million). Valve itself also takes the same cut from developers that publish their games on Steam.
What isn’t really known at this point is how the app will look on both mobile platforms. The attached image from X gives us some idea of what Epic has in mind but as these things go, that could change at launch.
What will be interesting to see if how Epic Games plans on implementing its launcher on iOS. As some of you know, the relationship between the Unreal Engine owner and fruit company can best be described as toxic.
