The Microsoft Build: AI Day was supposed to begin today, with the local leg of the event initially scheduled to take place tomorrow. In case you missed it, the company postponed the event without providing a new date. But it looks like the company has marked another event on its calendar, set a day before the actual Build 2024, currently slated for 21 and 22 May.
According to The Verge though, it’s an event that won’t be livestreamed, and only those who got a direct invitation from Microsoft can be there. The outlet claims that company CEO Satya Nadella will share details about its “AI vision across hardware and software”.
Beyond that, the report also cites sources that claim that the “event will include consumer versions of the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6”. These will be running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chipset. This implies a couple of things. The first is that the online event coming up soon will be specifically for businesses and enterprises, and the second is that these will all run Intel processors.
It’s an oddly specific distinction, but for what it’s worth, both events – and device sets – will probably have a hefty load of AI-related features in them. Though it remains to be seen what exactly sets them apart beyond the processors. But circling back to the postponed AI Day, a Microsoft rep has told us that this is a separate event, and will get back to us once a new AI Day date has been decided upon.
