Casio has unveiled the Casiotron TRN-50, a remake of its first ever digital watch, the QW02, that was released back in 1974. The new timepiece arrives in conjunction with the brand‘s 50th anniversary, and will only see a limited release of only 4,000 units worldwide.
The TRN-50 closely resembles the Casiotron QW02, sporting a classic design but with updated features. These include additional buttons on both sides, a larger display with mineral glass protection, and a redesign interface with slightly more information shown on-screen.
Like the original, it too comes with a stainless steel bezel and one-touch three-fold clasp band, but now with 50-metre water resistance. Additionally, the rear case has engraved serial numbers to denote the watch’s limited edition run.
Of course, the newer model is also much more advanced than Casio’s inaugural digital timepiece, though don’t expect smartwatch-level features. According to the company, the Casiotron TRN-50 has Multi band 6 auto time adjustment, Tough Solar, world time, daily alarms, full auto LED backlight, as well as smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth for time syncing and phone finder.
The new Casiotron TRN-50 is now available for pre-order via Casio Malaysia’s official website, priced at RM2,495. As a reminder, only 4,000 pieces are available worldwide, but it is unclear how many are allocated for the local market.
