The ability to pin chat messages to the top in WhatsApp is a relatively new feature, being added as recently as December last year. Pinning chats themselves, though, is much older, with test for it first seen as far back as 2017. For this, the current limit to the number of chats you can pin to the top is three. That may soon be increased to five, according to the beta version of the app on Android.
As WABetaInfo reports, WhatsApp is giving certain beta users running the Android 2.24.6.13 update the ability to pin up to five chats to the top of the app. The report also includes speculation that the limit may be pushed further beyond five, but so far nothing else looks to be suggest that.
Either way, the ability to pin more chats to the top of your WhatsApp account can be useful if you’re expecting more important messages to be incoming from multiple people. This is especially for either social butterflies or professionals that deal with lots of people or groups, with the ability to pin some chats reducing the amount of frantic scrolling if you need to look up a specific message for information. There is also the option to search via date, which as recently been rolled out as a feature for the general user base.
Going back to the chat pinning limit, as is usually the case, it’s quite impossible to tell when a feature that appears on a beta version of WhatsApp will get rolled out to all users, if it even happens. Though there are probably other upcoming features that are in higher demand.
