Rumours have it that NVIDIA’s next-generation GPU architecture, Blackwell, will be the first to introduce GDDR7 memory, and the GeForce RTX 50 Series (still no official) will be the first series to lead the charge with said memory standard.
The rumours comes from popular and reliable leakster, Kopite7kimi, who posted their belief on X, formerly Twitter. In their post, they claim that the flagship RTX 50 Series GPU would feature a 512-bit memory bus, and doesn’t state any reason as to why that may be the case.
Combined with multiple sources, I confirm the gaming flagship of Ada-next will have a 512-bit memory interface.

Additionally, Kopite is also claiming that, in conjunction with running on GDDR7, the RTX 50 Series will also run at a frequency of 28 Gbps, far outpacing the current speeds of the RTX 40 Series. Even then, that’s still not the full speed that GDDR7 is capable of reaching, and that is in excess of 32 Gbps.
GDDR6 memory is undoubtedly getting on in age. The memory standard was first and formally introduced in 2018, with the launch of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 20 Series, which in turn was also the inaugural introduction of the RTX Series to the world. The RTX 2080 Ti, in particular, was the only model at the time to be fitted with the more powerful GDDR6X memory. So, it makes sense that NVIDIA would want to introduce GDDR7 with the upcoming RTX 50 Series.
A 384-bit wide memory interface with correspondingly fast GDDR7 would be sufficiently fast. The question is what speed is available for GDDR7 at the start.

Of course, the fact that this GDDR7 rumour means that the same warning of sodium consumption comes into play. But, given the reliability of Kopite and their past rumours and predictions, coupled with the fact that JEDEC published the memory standard earlier this month, it wouldn’t be too far of stretch to believe that this is highly likely.
