Judging from past announcements, chipmaker Qualcomm usually reveals new chip generations near the end of the year. So when the company says it has an announcement to make outside of that window, chances are it involves mid-gen variants. With that in mind, a launch event has just been announced for next week, or more specifically, on 18 March.
This comes from the official Qualcomm account of Chinese social media site Weibo. The post includes the aforementioned date, as well as what is translated as “New Snapdragon Flagship Product Launch”. No specifics on what exactly is being launched, but prior leaks may provide a hint.
Between late January and early February, @rquandt has shared two model numbers that Qualcomm is claimed to be working on – SM8635 and SM7675. From these, chances are it will involve additions to the Snapdragon 8 and 7 series of chips, though it is suggested that they are “basically identical”.
Separately, Chinese leakster Digital Chat Station has shared what is claimed to be some figures of the SM8635, which involve a 2.9GHz ARM Cortex X4 core, an Adreno 735 GPU, and an AnTuTu score of over 1.7 million. The score suggests that the chip will be something that sits between the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3.
Qualcomm SM7675 and SM8635 definitely coming to market as seperate SKUs. They've been in testing in seperate reference designs since December.

At any rate, with the launch happening next week, it won’t be long before we find out what exactly Qualcomm has under wraps. Though we may or may not see some new AI-related features as part of the announcement.
