Apple is already working on a new M4-equipped MacBook Pro, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. However, details are still scarce, while the device itself was only mentioned briefly during a Q&A section in his weekly Power On newsletter.
According to Gurman, Apple has “just begun formal development” of its next-gen MacBook Pro which, he added, will feature the latest M4 chipset. Meanwhile, separate rumours are suggesting that the new silicon will be based on the brand’s upcoming A18 chip that’s powering this year’s iPhone Pro models. And like its predecessors, it is believed that different variants of the M4, such as Pro and Max options, will be introduced along the way.
Both the M4 and A18 chips are also expected to feature more Neural Engine cores to handle AI-related tasks. This is quite likely, as it was reported that Apple CEO Tim Cook had told investors during an earnings call that the brand’s own take on generative AI is slated to debut later this year. On that note, Gurman previously mentioned that these features will be introduced on the next major iOS and macOS firmware updates releasing around the same time.
For those keeping track of Apple’s products, news of such developments are unsurprising, especially when new iterations are expected every year. That said, given that the company has an inconsistent release schedule for its MacBook products, it’s hard to say when it will actually announce the allegedly upcoming MacBook Pro M4.
