Maxis has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with communications solutions provider Nokia with the aim to drive next-generation connectivity. Both companies inked the new deal at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona, witnessed by communications minister Fahmi Fadzil.
In its press statement, Maxis revealed that the collaboration with Nokia is aimed at exploring the integration of cutting-edge technologies to enhance the resilience of its networks, thereby enhancing their security and dependability. This includes the adoption of quantum-safe optical networking, which safeguards against threats from both conventional and quantum computers.
Both companies will also focus on innovating to facilitate efficient and scalable connectivity across cloud environments in order to enhance network security. The telco emphasised that this improvement will also benefit enterprise customers.
Maxis adds that these initiatives align with the increasing demand for network infrastructure capable of supporting robust interconnectivity and seamless cross-border data exchange, supported by more secure optical data centres.
The telco further noted it recently engaged Nokia as a key partner to develop part of its 5G Core ecosystem to meet future connectivity requirements. This includes the use of cloud-native solutions which enable Maxis to fully leverage 5G capabilities, offering greater functionality, reliability, and efficiency to support next-generation 5G services.
On a related note, Maxis had also recently announced collaborations with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud during MWC 2024. Both collaborations are enterprise-driven, involving the prospect of utilising cutting-edge 5G and generative AI technologies to empower local businesses.
