One of the big changes with the iPhone 15 Pro compared to its predecessors was the implementation of the Action button, first seen with the Apple Watch Ultra. Avid enthusiasts of mobile photography may have been tempted to turn it into a dedicated shutter button. But if CAD renders of the iPhone 16 Pro which recently surfaced online are to be believed, this will not be necessary anymore.
91Mobiles claims to have obtained said renders from industry sources, showing off some similarites and differences between the iPhone 16 Pro and preceding models. One key difference is the presence of this additional button, but the report claims that it is more than just the shutter key. Dubbing it the Capture Button, a capacitive button that also does things like adjusting focus and zoom levels. It’s also located on the right side, closer to the bottom compared to the power button.
Had it been a mere shutter button, it would probably be a welcome addition, even if far from innovative. The Sony Xperia line has had it since before the line’s reboot. But it remains to be seen if this button on the iPhone 16 Pro, reportedly being a capacitive touch type at that, can do both focus and zoom adjustments accurately in addition to the basic functionality that users would expect from it.
Other smaller changes on the iPhone 16 Pro, according to these renders, include a larger Action Button. The phone as a whole will also be larger than the current model in general. But as is the case with such reports, pinches of salt is recommended.
