Xiaomi today has officially launched its latest Xiaomi 14 flagship smartphone series in Malaysia. For the local market, the line-up comprises a standard variant and the top-of-the-line Ultra model. Missing from the reveal is the Xiaomi 14 Pro, which remains as a China-only exclusive.
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is definitely the star of the show, and its also revealed that Malaysia will be the first Southeast Asian country to first receive the model. Specifications-wise, this particular variant sports a larger 6.73-inch AMOLED display with 3200 x 1440 px resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 3000 nits peak brightness. The phone also features Xiaomi Shield Glass protection for its screen, an aluminium surrounding frame, nano-tech vegan leather back, IP68 water/dust resistance, Dolby Atmos-tuned stereo speakers, and a four-mic array.
Under the hood, the Ultra model is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship chipset, along with an Adreno GPU, Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF system, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. Powering it is a 5,000mAh battery with 90W wired and 80W wireless fast charging support, and features reverse charging capability. Additionally, the phone comes with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC connectivity, as well as Android 14 via Xiaomi’s HyperOS interface.
In terms of imaging, housed within the large circular bump on the back of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is a quad camera setup consisting a 1-inch Sony LYT-900 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP floating telephoto lens, a 50MP periscope lens, and a 50MP ultra-wide sensor. All of which are also equipped with Leica VARIO-SUMMILUX lenses. Meanwhile, housed within the cutout on its display is a 32MP selfie camera.
Next up we have the vanilla Xiaomi 14 which we’ve already reported on several times already. Nevertheless, here’s a quick refresher for those who’ve missed it. This particular model features a smaller 6.36-inch LTPO 1,200 x 2,680 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 240 touch sampling rate and 3,000 nits peak brightness. Under its hood is the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset as the Ultra, which is paired together with 12GB of RAM, and a choice of 256GB or 512GB of storage. The battery is rated at 4,610mAh, supporting 90W wired and 50W wireless charging.
For photography, the Xiaomi 14 has a triple 50MP camera setup at the back, serving as the main, wide angle and 3.2x zoom telephoto shooters. In front, it has a 32MP selfie camera housed within the cutout on its display.
The new Xiaomi 14 Ultra, available in Black and White colourways, is priced at RM5,199 and is slated to be available for purchase in Malaysia from 22 March 2024. Meanwhile, the vanilla model is available starting tomorrow, priced at RM3,499 for the 12GB + 256GB trim and RM3,799 for 12GB + 512GB, while its colour options include Black, White, and Jade Green. Both variants come with four generations of Android OS upgrades and five years of security patches.
