After much rumours and leaks, Nothing has officially launched its latest smartphone, the Phone (2a). The device itself is marketed as a mid-ranger, and is also considered by the brand as the direct successor to its inaugural smartphone, the Phone (1).
However, unlike the past two, the newer Phone (2a) features a completely new rear panel design, along with a horizontally arranged camera layout. It is also the first smartphone from the company to feature a MediaTek chipset, more specifically a Dimensity 7200 Pro that’s been custom tuned to deliver optimum performance.
The brand’s signature Glyph Interface is offered on the device as well, albeit a more simplified version of it. Nevertheless, it retains a good number of features such as Music Visualisation, Camera Countdown, Volume Indicator, Notifications and more.
In terms of specifications, the Nothing Phone (2a) sports the same 6.7-inch AMOLED display as its high-end cousin, featuring a resolution of 2412 x 1084 pixels, an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz, touch sampling rate of 240Hz, and a peak brightness of 1300 nits. It also comes with IP54 rating in water and dust resistance, dual stereo speakers, two high-definition mics, Android 14 via Nothing OS 2.5, and dual SIM support.
Under its hood is the 5G-enabled Dimensity 7200 Pro chipset mentioned earlier, along with up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB storage. Regarding the latter, the phone will only be shipped in a single 12GB + 256GB configuration in Malaysia. Nothing adds that a RAM Booster tool is also included on the device, should the user wish to increase its memory capacity further.
The battery on the Phone (2a) comes with a 5,000mAh capacity, along with 45W fast charging support that could top up 100% power in about an hour. In terms of connectivity, there’s support for dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC.
For imaging, the back of the phone features dual 50MP sensors for the primary and ultra-wide cameras. The former comes with optical and electronic image stabilisation as well as auto focus, while the latter offers a 144-degree field of view. Meanwhile, housed within the punch-hole cutout on the display is a 32MP selfie camera.
The Phone (2a) is priced at RM1,699 in Malaysia, and is available in two colourways: Black and Milk. It is also worth mentioning that Nothing is also offering three years of Android updates and four years of security patches for the handset.
Pre-orders will open via the brand’s official online stores on Lazada and Shopee later at midnight, and the device itself will be publicly available in Malaysia starting 9 March 2024. For those who want it much earlier, take note that a limited drop of 100 Nothing Phone (2a) units will be landing exclusively at CROSSOVER Sunway Pyramid tomorrow morning at 11am onwards.
