Apple unveiled its 13- and 15-inch model MacBook Air models with its M3 chips. These also come with multi-display support, a feature that the 14-inch Pro model using the base M3 chip don’t yet have. The bitten fruit since announced that the base M3-equipped MacBook Pro models will be getting the same via a software update.
Apple has confirmed to 9to5Mac that the 14-inch MacBook Pro, which is incidentally the only model that has the option to use the vanilla M3 chip, will benefit from this. Though it’s unclear when the update will arrive, or via which software update. But when it does, it should work the same as the recently launched MacBook Air models.
It’s worth reiterating that this is really only an issue with the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the base M3 chips. Going back to the M1, chips with Pro or higher tier suffixes had always had multi-display support, with the Mac mini being the exception.
With this update, it is tempting to say that this means that the vanilla M3 chip is getting some feature parity with its more expensive variants. In reality, the better chips still come with support for more additional displays, while still being able to crunch numbers better.
