Along with the unveiling of the new MacBook Air models last night, Apple also announced that its M2-equipped predecessor is now offered at lower prices. Today onwards, the 13-inch model can be obtained from RM4,799 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration, and from RM5,599 for the 8GB + 512GB trim. For comparison, the MacBook M2 originally debuted in 2022 at a starting price of RM5,499.
Since it’s been a while, here’s a quick recap. The base M2-based MacBook Air comes with a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, which also features a notch to house its 1080p FaceTime HD camera. Under its hood is the aforementioned first-party chipset that’s touted to be 38% faster than its predecessor, especially for video editing. Based on Apple Malaysia listing on its website, this particular model is currently offered with 8GB RAM and up to 512GB storage via SSD.
In terms of battery life, the 13-inch MacBook Air M2 is claimed to offer up to 15 hours of wireless web browsing and 18 hours of Apple TV movie playback. It also comes with fast charging capability which allows the laptop to obtain 50% of its capacity with 30 minutes of charging time via the built-in MagSafe power connector.
For connectivity, the laptop features two USB-C Thunderbolt ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack that can support high-impedance headphones, and a three-mic array. While not entirely visible, also onboard is a four-speaker sound system that supports Dolby Atmos.
As for the 15-inch MacBook Air M2, Apple so far has not announced any changes to its pricing. Stranger still, the company has also removed the variant entirely from the official Malaysia website. However, you can still pick it up from authorised retailers such as Machines or Switch starting from RM6,199, which is the same price point when it launched locally last year.
