Apple is reportedly developing a successor to its Beats Solo on-ear headphones, which last saw a numbered release all the way back in 2016. Hints of the device, allegedly known as the Beats Solo 4, was found within the iOS 17.4 release candidate that was recently distributed by the company, MacRumors reports. Discovered are numerous references to the unannounced audio product, along with accompanying images supposedly depicting its design and colour options.
MacRumors notes that the Beats Solo4 bears resemblance to its predecessor, but incorporates design elements from last year’s Beats Studio Pro model. Additionally, the discovered images are suggesting that the allegedly upcoming headphones will be offered in three colourways: black, pink, and blue.
The iOS 17.4 code is also indicating that the Solo4 will support Spatial Audio, while other potential features are still not known at this time. It is speculated that Apple may include typical improvements on the latest iteration of the headset, including upgraded audio drivers and longer battery life, among other things. There’s also a chance for it to inherit familiar gestures from the Studio Pro, as well as a USB-C port replacing the old micro-USB connector.
