HONOR may not be a stranger to foldable devices, and the most recent one we quite enjoyed, but the brand has not yet produced a clamshell type foldable. That is set to change soon, and as soon as this year at that, according to one report.
In an interview with CNBC, HONOR CEO George Zhao shared that “this year we are preparing for the flip phone launch – now that we are internally in the final stage”. That being said, the report does not include an exact date, nor a rough launch window for said clamshell foldable.
Releasing a vertically folding phone can probably be seen as HONOR catching up to other phone maker rivals. Most notable in the market right now include South Korean tech giant Samsung, as well as fellow Chinese brand OPPO with at multiple generations of each type of foldable. That being said, the Magic V2, has set quite the bar as far as expectations go for this upcoming clamshell foldable.
Beyond revealing plans for releasing its first vertically folding phone this year, the report also mentions HONOR’s AI endeavours. Not exactly surprising, and it is far from the first company to do so. That being said, it remains to be seen what sort of practical form this AI integration will take.
