Maxis and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced a new collaboration during Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona. According to a press statement issued by the telco, the aim of this partnership is to redefine the landscape of digital innovation, as well as empowering businesses with cutting-edge AI solutions and next-generation connectivity powered by the latter.
This partnership aims to utilise cutting-edge 5G and generative AI technologies into real-world business use cases; targeting retail, manufacturing, logistics and financial services domains, with the aim of enabling innovation for Malaysian enterprises. By building upon the AWS infrastructure, Maxis intends to provide comprehensive solutions that can adapt to evolving business requirements, granting them a competitive advantage through technological advancements.
Internally, the telco will concentrate on enhancing customer service and support for enterprise clients, facilitating quicker and more impactful decision-making processes. With access to AWS’s advanced machine learning capabilities, Maxis can now develop, train and deploy AI models at a larger scale. The combined efforts of generative AI integration and a large language model trained to support the Bahasa Melayu language will also help accelerate the digital transformation journey for more Malaysian businesses.
“We are pleased to expand our collaboration with AWS to bring next generation digital capabilities to Malaysian businesses,” Maxis CEO Goh Seow Eng said in the press release. “As the leading integrated telecommunications provider in Malaysia, we look forward to enabling our customers with the power of 5G and Generative AI.”
It is also worth mentioning that Maxis is the first service provider in Malaysia to be an Advanced Tier Services Partner and Direct Connect partner with AWS. Prior to this, the telco was also accredited as an AWS Advanced Consulting Partner and joined the Amazon service’s Solution Provider Programme back in 2020.
On a related note, Maxis also announced yesterday that it will be working with Google Cloud to enable enterprise-grade generative AI within its internal and customer service environments. This separate partnership will see the telco leveraging on Google’s Duet AI for Developers platform for AI-powered coding assistance in natural language, and multimodal capabilities from the Gemini models on the Vertex AI platform.
