OPPO has unveiled another prototype smart eyewear following the Air Glass 2 from 2022. As you’d expect, the new one is called the OPPO Air Glass 3, unveiled as part of the MWC 2024 showcase. The new iteration also boasts giving the wearer the AI experience via smart glasses.
Said AI experience comes via the company’s own AndesGPT model, but you’ll only get access to this via a phone, presumably one of the brand’s own. But through the OPPO Air Glass 3, you can get the same user experience as you would via said phone, except all you need to do is press on the temple to activate the AI voice assistant, rather than pull the phone out. All that being said, it mostly sounds like incremental upgrades from what the previous model did.
The OPPO Air Glass 3 weighs in at 50g, which is quite a bit more than the 38g of the predecessor. That being said, the eyewear now boasts what is described by reports as “a display brightness uniformity of more than 50%, and a peak eye brightness of more than 1,000 nits”. The need for such brightness levels is a tad odd for screens so near your eyes, but at least it does so automatically while providing a full-colour display.
Considering the OPPO Air Glass 3 is a prototype, it probably will not be something you’ll find on shelves, much like the preceding models. Though with the current AI fad, there’s a stronger case for this to be released as a commercial product than ever before.
