You know the ZTE subsidiary nubia through a lot of phones, but the brand is probably best known these days for its Redmagic gaming phones. More recently, the company has released its first foldable, and one with a clamshell form factor at that, as part of the MWC 2024 event. It’s known simply as the nubia Flip 5G.
According to GSMArena, the spec sheet of the nubia Flip includes the foldable 6.9-inch 1,188 x 2,790 OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. On the outside, it has a circular 1.43-inch 466 x 466 screen, which is integrated into the camera bump housing a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. As is common with such secondary screens, you can use it as a selfie viewfinder, or to just use the phone in a more limited capacity without unfolding it.
On the inside, the nubia Flip comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space. The battery is rated at 4,310mAh, with a charging rate of 33W. There’s also a secondary 16MP camera sitting in a punch-hole cutout if you prefer that for your vanity needs.
The report also notes that the nubia Flip is priced at US$599 (~RM2,863), which would technically make it a budget foldable phone, if the phrase makes sense. If the chipset of the device was any indication, this probably shouldn’t come as a complete surprise. That being said, the phone is noted to be effectively identical to the Japan-exclusive ZTE Libero Flip, which launched last week to the tune of JPY63,000 (~RM2,001).
No details have been announced when it comes to local availability, so it remains to be seen which of the two price tags we will end up with. If we end up with one at all, that is.
