As promised last week, OnePlus has officially debuted its second smartwatch, the OnePlus Watch 2, during MWC 2024 in Barcelona. It offers an updated design, as well as a unique Dual Engine Architecture which lets it run two chipsets and two operating systems.
To start things off, the new OnePlus Watch 2 offers a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with 466 x 466 pixel resolution, 60Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. The screen itself is protected by a 2.5D sapphire glass, while its stainless steel case comes with MIL-STD-810H standard and is rated 5ATM for water resistance.
Features-wise, the wearable packs an optical pulse oximeter that tracks and rates your sleep, as well as monitors your stress levels and heart rate variability. Its onboard Running mode utilises dual-frequency GPS (Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS and QZSS) and other sensors to track your performance and provide advice. Meanwhile, other built-in sports options also include Tennis, Badminton, Skiing, and many more.
As mentioned earlier, the OnePlus Watch 2 is based on a new Dual Engine Architecture, where it can run on either the Snapdragon W5-powered Wear OS 4 or the low-power BES2700 chipset with real-time OS (RTOS). The former is activated when you select Smart Mode, which lets you run all onboard features such as Google Maps, Assistant, Wallet, Calendar, Gmail and so on. The latter, on the other hand, becomes the default when you select Power Saver Mode, providing access to essential functions such as health monitoring, sports modes, as well as the ability to make and receive calls.
Selecting either mode will also affect the watch’s battery life. Choosing Smart Mode grants up to 100 hours with regular use or up to 48 hours with heavy usage, whereas activating Power Saver Mode enables for usage up to 12 days on a single charge. Included together with the OnePlus Watch 2 is a 7.5 VOOC fast charger that can fully top-up its battery in 60 minutes, or a full day’s worth of charge in just 10 minutes.
Last but not least, the new OnePlus wearable also comes with various smart functions such as notifications, navigation, and music playback. On that note, the Wear OS 4 system has access to 2GB of RAM and 32GB storage, with the latter allowing for offline maps and music storage.
The OnePlus Watch 2 is priced at EUR299 (~RM1,549) and is available in either Black Steel or Radiant Steel colourways. The company has yet to confirm whether its new smartwatch will be sold in Malaysia at this time.
