Update (3:50PM): The Samsung Galaxy Ring has finally been revealed, though unfortunately, the company did not reveal any new information about the health wearable. A health tracking feature was confirmed, which is the sleep tracking part of the package.
One other bit of detail regarding the Samsung Galaxy Ring that the company confirmed is that it will be available “later this year”. No specific dates were provided, though earlier reports that claim that the wearable would be launched alongside the new batch of foldables may be a hint as to its availability.
ORIGINAL STORY (1:08PM):
Just last week, we saw reports of the Samsung Galaxy Ring smart wearable potentially being officially revealed at the next Unpacked event. But now, the company has come out and said that it will be unveiled this week instead, as part of the MWC 2024 showcase.
In the announcement, Samsung says that the Galaxy Ring will be “publicly displayed for the first time” alongside the company’s other products. The company also specifically says that it is “being unveiled as a new health form factor that simplifies everyday wellness”. That being said, the primary focus of the company’s booth at the tech event would be its Galaxy S24 series and the accompanying Galaxy AI.
Beyond being a health wearable broadly in the same category as the Galaxy Watch line, the company hasn’t revealed much else about the Samsung Galaxy Ring. But the category itself, as well as a patent filing from back in 2022, suggest that it will have the familiar range of health tracking functions, including ECG and a blood pressure sensor. The aforementioned report also notes additional features like wireless payments and remote control capabilities.
All that being said, it’s unclear if the Samsung Galaxy Ring will indeed be heavily involved in the company’s push for Galaxy AI, and if so, what sort of role such a small accessory can play in the ecosystem. Though we’ll probably find out once the company has the wearable on display.
