Grab has quietly rolled out a new feature for GrabFood that gives you the option to avoid paying its small order fee with an add-on. The app now allows you to purchase a voucher, which you can use for your next purchase, whenever your food order does not meet the minimum threshold, but it does come with certain terms and conditions.
Any user of GrabFood is familiar with the fact that if you want to make an order that costs less then RM12, you would have to pay an extra RM2 as a small order fee, meaning you are paying extra for nothing. With the new feature, orders under RM12 will have the option to add a RM4 voucher for either its e-hailing service, GrabFood, GrabMart, or GrabExpress.
However, each of the vouchers offered are only RM4 in value, so in order to meet the RM12 threshold, the order must still cost at least RM8 for the voucher option to appear. The vouchers purchased are valid for 30 days with no minimum spend except for the GrabMart voucher, which has a minimum spend of RM40.
In our experience with it, the option is only available for certain restaurants. it is unclear whether this is being rolled out widely or it is still in the testing phase. We’ve contacted Grab for clarification.
