While it is no surprise that PlayStation made its own PS VR2 headset exclusive to its own console, it’s still a minor bummer to enthusiasts who were looking to get more use out of the headset. While it has been mostly a pipe dream until now, the company may have such plans in the pipeline.
In a PlayStation Blog post announcing new PS VR2 titles, the Sony video games subsidiary snuck in a mention of a possibility of using the headset with PC. The exact language in the blog post is a tad strange, and perhaps intentionally vague. Specifically, it reads “we are currently testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC to offer even more gameplay variety in addition to the PS VR2 titles available through PS5”.
This change in direction may have something to do with the company’s new attitude towards becoming more PC-friendly. That being said, one may argue that it is a case of too little, too late, as hardcore VR enthusiasts would have already gotten something else for their PC VR needs. Others have started taking matters into their own hands to make the PS VR2 work with PC, and while official support is nice, the unclear language is not inspiring confidence.

Or, the announcement was made as a way to celebrate the headset’s first anniversary, in its own low-key way. At any rate, PlayStation hopes “to make this support available in 2024”, so we will probably find out more as time goes on.
