BYD today has officially launched its Seal electric sedan for the Malaysian market, which is available in two variants: RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive) Premium and Performance AWD (All-Wheel Drive). The Dynamic base model, which debuted in Singapore and Thailand last year, is not included in the local release line-up, while the Elite option remains as a China-only exclusive.
The BYD Seal EV takes the form of a four-door sedan, featuring a sloping roofline, short rear deck, wave waistline, waterdrop mirrors, panoramic glass roof, and LED tail lights. It measures 4,800 mm in length and 1,875 mm in width, while its wheelbase comes in at 2,920 mm.
The EV is also the third BYD model based on its e-platform 3.0 after the Dolphin and Atto 3, though it is the first from the brand equipped with CTB (cell-to-body) technology, seamlessly integrating the onboard Blade Battery into the vehicle’s structure, ensuring stability and safety under diverse conditions.
On the inside, the BYD Seal sports a 15.6 rotating touchscreen for navigation, entertainment and vehicle settings, complemented by the brand’s intelligent cockpit system with voice command functionality. Also onboard is a premium HIFI Dynaudio sound system, while a PM2.5 filtration system is also available to ensure a clean and healthy in-cabin atmosphere.

Meanwhile, the top-end Performance model comes with a dual-motor AWD powertrain, along with the same 82.5kWh battery as its sibling. The front motor offers 215 hp/310 Nm and the rear provides 308 hp/360 Nm, enabling for a combined output of 530 PS (390 kW) and 670 Nm. This model is claimed to be able to hit 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, while it is also touted to have a range of 520km via the WLTP scale.
Both the Premium and Performance variants feature 7 kW AC charging (15.2 hours), and a DC charging rate of 150 kW. BYD claims that charging through the former takes about 15.2 hours for a full top-up, while the latter is said to only take around 37 minutes from 10% to 80% of charge.
