Starfield recently released a patch, bringing support for AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR3) and Intel’s XeSS technology out of the beta and officially into the game. The former upscaling technology, in particular, is a long-awaited feature that its developer and publisher, Bethesda, had promised since the launch of the title in September last year.
AMD’s FSR3 effectively replaces the older FSR2 upscaling technology that was implemented at launch and even offer Frame Generation. Be advised, though, that the feature can be unpleasant, primarily due to the bokeh effect that shrouds your character when it is turned on. Further, it still doesn’t come with an option to choose between a Performance or Quality mode, or a balance between both.

On the other hand, the Intel XeSS support that is also part of the patch actually offers users the choice to tweak its upscaling intensity, in the same way NVIDIA’s own DLSS upscaling technology does.
The arrival of FSR3 to Starfield is a bittersweet moment, at least for Bethesda. The studio had announced that the title would be an AMD PC Exclusive partner, and yet, the studio made the decision to implement NVIDIA’s DLSS upscaling technology into the game first, well before the Red Team’s 3rd generation technology. Despite this, though, the game still does not support ray-tracing.
